Finally, Some Pictures!

I took advantage of my high-speed internet access in the States to load some photos. Hopefully this can give a more textured, tangible sense to my experience here. (And just for the record, it's not a country-wide problem that I'm having; my internet is just not the fastest speed at home.) I've tried to group the pictures by theme. This first post is random shots around Amman for a sort of basic visual introduction.

A bird's eye view of downtown Amman, including the old Roman amphitheatre, which you can see at the center of the photo.

This is Shara'a Waqalat, which is a new (one or two years old) pedestrian shopping area. Another example of growing commercial modernization in the city.

Another one for my appreciation of irony. The butcher shop says "paradise" and shows cows happily grazing in the Elysian fields - above their strung up carcasses. This was next to Shara'a Waqalat.

An overly dark shot of the McDonald's on Abdoun Circle. (See my entry on Abdoun here.)

A shot in the neighborhood nearby to where I live.
